I love connecting and helping people and I love the dynamic, strategy, energy and fight required for sales. There are so many things in this world to be excited about and building a strong networking community that is sustainable, profitable, beneficial and reliable is more important now than it has ever been.
My first sales job, that I didn't realize was a sales job, was at 9 years old mowing lawns in our neighborhood. My brother I worked for about 10 years together gathering business, mowing lawns and ultimately saw our little operation handling 40-60 lawns a summer.
Thereafter, I think I determined that it was time for a more adult job and I signed on with a DJ and entertainment company where over the course of 16 years I performed at over 1500 events, managed a roster of 50 DJs and 2000 live musicians and booked, coordinated and sold about 1800-2200 events per year.
16 years of parties, late nights, loud music and high stress environments eventually took their toll and a local office furniture dealership gave me an opportunity to make more money in the furniture "sales" world. I was blown away that they wanted me to sell for them, after all, I didn't know the first thing about sales.
Except that I did, I hadn't realized it and eventually went on to work in the office furniture world for almost 9 years where I sharpened my sales sword and, even more importantly, learned how to intentionally build a referral network that would ultimately lead to better prospects, higher close ratio and larger revenue projects.
During my time at the dealership I learned sales but also the incredible value of a solid network of B2B individuals who could not only refer me but would also bring me to their clients as a trusted advisor. In turn, I was able to learn about my networks businesses and who they needed to be in front of in order to provide more value to my end users beyond just the services that I provided.
The biggest and most influential, driving force in my growth as a salesperson and networking enthusiast was Firestorm®, its members and Phil Pelto.
The transition from office furniture to Firestorm® was truly a no-brainer. As much as I love my clients, earning their trust and delivering above and beyond what I had told them I would do, I realized that my passion is not furniture.
Connecting, networking educating, referring, learning and meeting new people is what I'm passionate about and Firestorm has provided me the opportunity to be a driving force for other people's businesses and their success. I suppose at the end of the day you could call it sales.
The reality is that I wake up every morning fired up and ready to help Firestorm® and its members build the most incredible, diverse, unstoppable force of networking awesomeness in Colorado and beyond that we can possibly build!
